Media Producers

If you’ve read the development page and you’re a ‘content producer’ and a big fan of holding onto all you rights, this is probably freaking you out.

If you’re a publisher, it’s likely you’ve got you finger on the speed dial button to your lawyer.

If you’re entrepreneur who understand open licences, you’ll be kicking yourself.
Datama is an open source software project that seeks to utilise all media on the internet. How to achieve that legally is hard. But there is a way.

Firstly, the project has to be non profit. Datama is.

Secondly, you need to understand how the Internet works. Datama is 100% distributive.

Third, you got know how what the copyright laws do to society and creativity and how you can work with media technology to give the audience what they want.

Media consumption by the individual is not controllable at the point of consumption. As you sit there in front of you computer or PDA, you are surrounded by dozens of other media objects: TV, radio, Music (CD, Internet, Ipod), Newspapers, branded objects. They are interacting with you.

Datama seeks to bring all this into an interface so that the audience can navigate as they see fit.

So take your field of vision: this is a plane, a surface. Just like your computer monitor. Once all the media is stored there, you have the right to compose the desktop as you see fit, change the colour balance, chose which wallpaper, amend the desktop theme, read a bit of 5 websites all at the same time. Your consumption habits are your freedom. You are making you data experience a cinematic one. This is Datama.

Datama has been set up to explore the total aggregation of all media (video, audio, image and text), so understand how it can work with code at the same level of language and deliver the opportunity for these objects to themselves create new media through their interaction.

Datama doesn’t seek to produce derivative works of existing media. Datama seeks to create a better use of media for everyone.

How this will pan out will be recorded through the blog. Do subscribe to the RSS feed to keep up with the project. Or better, get involved…
